THE WINEMAKER

Anton Balog

In the winery, Anton Balog, who has been making wine in the region since 1995, handcrafts wines with a European influence.

Mundrakoona Estate produces wine solely from the Southern Highlands Cool Climate wine region. Our label reflects this as it features the Waratah - endemic to the district and also the floral emblem of the state of NSW.

The average altitude of Southern Highlands vineyards is 650 metres, resulting in an extended ripening period which develops maximum varietal flavours in Mundrakoona Wines.

Anton's philosophy at Mundrakoona is to create wines of complexity, varietal intensity and balance by using minimal intervention and maximum care.

All wine is made and matured on site in a small modern boutique winery, with a blend of traditional and new world techniques.

The winery operates on the gravity system to ensure careful handling of the grape juice, and which helps to produce elegant wines that have a long and well balanced structure.

Temperature controlled stainless steel vats are used for the production of white wines. Only premium French oak barriques are used for reds and chardonnay. Wines are minimally filtered and bottled on the estate.

The ARTEMIS wine label.

The ARTEMIS wine label was introduced in 2001 and has 3 tiers of quality: the 'Goddess' range, 'Crux Quadrata' range and the limited release 'Grand Crux'.

Fruit for this label is sourced from a number of cool climate wine growing regions in NSW including the Southern Highlands, Murrumbateman, Hilltops and Tumbarumba.

The new range of premium wines under Mundrakoona's exclusive ARTEMIS label can be seen on the ARTEMIS website.

Wine tastings and sales are available from the cellar door 7 days a week.
